Archive and restore a project
Archiving is the safe alternative to deleting. An archived project keeps every task, annotation, member, export snapshot and setting — it simply stops being part of day-to-day work.
What archiving changes
- Hidden from lists. The project disappears from the projects page, the home page and every picker. Managers find it under the Archived filter on the projects page.
- Closed to new work. Labeling and review streams refuse it, and new
annotations cannot be submitted (the API answers
403with This project is archived). Existing annotations stay readable and exportable. - Members keep nothing to do, lose nothing. Annotators and reviewers no longer see the project at all; their contribution ledger, payouts and evaluation history are untouched.
- Reversible. Restoring puts the project back exactly as it was, including its published/paused state.
Archive
- Open the project → Settings → Danger Zone.
- Archive Project, confirm. You land back on the projects page.
Managers, admins and owners can archive; the platform API is
PATCH /api/projects/<id> with {"is_archived": true} (archived_at is
stamped automatically).
Restore
- Projects page → Archived filter → open the project.
- Restore project in the dashboard header (or Settings → Danger Zone → Restore Project).
The API form is PATCH /api/projects/<id> with {"is_archived": false}.
Archive vs pause vs delete
| Visible to members | Accepts work | Reversible | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pause (unpublish) | No | No | Yes |
| Archive | No | No | Yes |
| Delete | — | — | No |
Pause is for "not right now" — the project stays in your lists and the managers keep working on it. Archive is for "done" — it leaves the lists until you need it again. Delete is final.
