The team, roles and accounts

The checklists were written for eight roles, called tester1 to tester8, each with a test account. We have four people, so the four extra roles are folded into the four real testers for this round. The role decides which steps you own; the account decides what the app lets you do.

Who owns what in Round 1

TesterRole in the appWhat they own this roundSteps
tester1Organisation owner / adminOnboarding and sign-in, organisation and platform settings, project management, UI and design, accessibility, documentation. Also the desktop app (role 6) and security and privacy (role 8).103
tester2Project managerThe Setup and Export sections of every annotation suite, and the performance suite. tester2 creates the projects the others label in, so tester2's setup steps come first each day.128
tester3AnnotatorThe Label, Regions toolbar and Mobile / small screen sections of every annotation suite, plus localisation. The largest share, because labelling is what the tool is for.212
tester4ReviewerThe Review round-trip section of every annotation suite and the review-and-quality suite. Also speech and sign-language collection (role 5) and the phone app (role 7).113

The full eight-role split, with the exact sections for each, is on the tester checklists index.

Steps depend on each other across people

  • tester3 cannot label until tester2 has set the project up.
  • tester4 cannot review until tester3 has labelled.
  • Step MB-08 asks tester4 to reject something so the phone can receive a notification.

Read the step text: when it says "as tester4", it means sign in with that account. Agree in the group chat how tester2 signals "project ready" and how tester3 signals "labelled, over to you" — a one-line message with the suite name is enough.

Accounts

You will receive an email titled "Your AfriAnnotate account is ready" with a Set my password link. Click it, choose your own password, and you are in. Until you do, the account exists but cannot be signed into — so if the email has not arrived, check spam before asking the lead to resend.

Everyone starts as an owner of the testing organisation, so you can change each other's roles from Organization → Members without waiting for an admin. Record any swap in the Round Log.

The tester1 / tester2 names used throughout this guide are roles, not login names — your own email is your login. The dummy roster in accounts/testers.yml (in the afriannotate-testing repository) is for local development only; note that tester1b there is a second account, the organisation Admin, not a password.

Throwaway accounts

These are test accounts. Never put real personal data — names, phone numbers, voice recordings of people who have not agreed — into them.

Decisions you own

The role split above is the default loaded into the workbook's Assigned To column. If someone has a device the others lack (an iPad, a Windows laptop), move those steps to them by changing the cell; every count follows the cell. Record any swap in the Round Log so the history stays honest.

If tester3's 212 steps prove too many, the Regions toolbar sections are the natural block to move to tester4.
